ice-cream-tease Have we as human beings really make the conscious decision to sit back on our heels and do nothing? Have we really decided that sitting on the couch flipping channels, eating fast food, snacking on those wonderful candy bars is the norm?  Has our paths really taken us down this road of despair that we haven’t realized what it has done to the younger generations?

I mean, for one, look at these recent articles. These all just came out over the past week or so.  I think we just don’t get it anymore. But there is HOPE.

  • Researchers compare perceptions of weight in 1988-1994 and 1999-2004
  • Fewer people classify themselves as overweight in the 1999-2004 survey
  • Weight misperception tends to decrease among women over time
  • Treatments for high cholesterol have lowered the death risks for overweight people
Morale:  Basically, we are being duped by retailers.  Everyone is being lead to believe that they can fit into something that really isn’t the right size. The retail industry is being fueled by the fact that we  are stupid enough to get ourselves FAT.  They are taking advantage of our insecurities and falsely making you feel good about yourself when in reality your getting FAT and not doing anything about it. Why play into their ploys. Get up, get moving, don’t let OVERWEIGHT be the norm.  What can you do to turn the tide?

  • Pamela Green-Jackson began crusade for youth fitness after her obese brother died
  • Youth Becoming Healthy teaches middle schoolers about exercise and nutrition
  • The organization has helped about 4,000 children since 2004

Morale:  Get your children off the couch and get them doing something.  GO outside with your kids and play.  Guess what, it is fun!  Create a relationship with your kids and get back to what makes up a family.  Teach your kids about fitness, nutrition and have fun with it.  It’s pretty simple, it really is.  The women in this story, GETS it.  I’m saddened it took something like this to get the ball rolling, but she gets it.  She is trying to do something about childhood obesity.  What can you do? Motivate them.  Get them excited about doing something other than playing the Wi, or watching a movie on TV. Set limits.

    • US Obesity Rate to BOOM (I think we are pass that one)
    • In July 2007,  66% of American’s were overweight or OBESE
    • Waistline has grown by by almost 4 inches for men near 7 inches for women (between 1960 – 2000
    • Project that 3 out of 4 Americans Adults will be overweight or obese by 2015
    • Foreigners that come and live in the US are not immune to the FAT!

Morale: Let’s see, we are FAT and getting FATTER.  You live or move to the US you are going to get FAT. Seems pretty simple to me.  Should it really be this way? Should we be settling in and saying, well, there isn’t anything that we can do about it.  WRONG!  It’s simple.  Just do it!  One step at a time, get up, get moving, and lets fix the imperfections of our society. Lets stop the downward spiral we’ve created over the past 50 years.

    • Get your kids off the sofa this summer
    • Higher risk of teens texting, sexting, getting into trouble, distancing themselves
    • Growing FAT and lazy (IMHO)
    • Find ways to get them MOTIVATED
Morale: Kids need structure.  They thrive on it. Believe me, I know. I have 2 that if they don’t have their routine, things can get pretty crazy.  This goes for all ages of kids, from toddlers to teens.  Find ways to MOTIVATE your children into keeping busy. Find ways for them to be productive but still have fun during their summer.  Jobs, camps, family vacations, etc.

    • Obesity accounts for greatest Jump in Healthcare spending.
    • costs JUMPED by 80% over the past 5 years.

Morale: Well, this continues in the theme of themes today with this one.  We are getting FAT and not doing anything about it.  As American's we still haven’t really gotten the bigger picture about what we have and continue to do to ourselves.  This so reminds me of that kids movie that came out a year or so ago.  Wall-E.  When everyone on that ship had everything catered to them and they got to docile and lazy that they decided there was no reason to get moving or take care of themselves anymore. Their minds simply blocked out what was happening.

KP’s Conclusion/Rant/theory/nonsense/crap, take it as you will.

So did that open your eyes a little? I hope so. That was the goal.   I hope you can see that we have lost our sense of priorities.  We don’t focus on the things that matter anymore and we need to start opening our eyes and seeing the bigger picture.  If we continue down this path, we are going to create such a mess for the future generations.  What will it take for you, yes you, to get MOTIVATED to turning the tide and making your life better?  There is no simple fix, magic pill or concoction that will simply make things right. It will take work, a lot of it.  Sweat, tears and pain!  But all of those are worth the results.  If you simply take a moment to make that lifestyle change that only takes one step at a time.

I’m not plugging any one particular way of doing this. I’m simply saying get off your ASS and do the right thing.  Find the spark, find the little motivator that gets you going everyday.  You find it, keep it close to you, read it, look at it, speak it out loud and let it guide you to a healthy life.  make that lifestyle change.   If your having problems finding something that motivates you, let me know.  We can figure it out.  But the ultimate feeling of satisfaction will come from within.

It’s simple.  You ready for that all inspiring way to do it. Here we go.  you ready?

    • Workout (walk, bike ride, swim, run, exercise programs (P90x, Weight watchers, etc).  It doesn’t matter.  Anything that gets you moving.
    • Eat Sensibly (no fast food, no soda’s, non of this crap that’s gotten us where we are now).  5-6 small meals a day. Veggies, fruits, lean meats.
    • Have fun and live life.  End Rant

Figure it out for yourself and take that initial step.  Then pass on your inspiration and motivation to the next person.  The change starts with just one person making the initial move.
