P90x – What is it?

 

So you see that crazy infomercial with this guy named Tony Horton (ripped, just ripped) promoting a fitness program.  You think, ah, just something that  is a gimmick like the rest of the fitness craze.  We’ll, I would like to clarify that one for you and give you a run down on what P90x is, how it works, and how it has and can play an integral part in your overall health and fitness.  Not only P90x, but all the products from BeachBody.  They’ve gone a long way to get people motivated to get fit, turn their lifestyles around and stay fit! BeachBody has created a revolution in fitness that hopefully everyone is beginning to see is for real.  Our health in too important to turn a blind eye.  P90x, one of the premier fitness products is a great way to get your life, health, fitness back on track.

What is P90x?

P90x consists of 12 workouts.  12 intense/extreme workouts that are meant to get you into the best shape of your life in 90 days. each workout is around 1 hour long. With Yoga being the longest at 1.5 hours.

How does it work?

P90x is designed to create muscle confusion. You say what? :).  Well, the idea is, that your muscles over time begin to create a memory/imprint of how much work they need to do, if you do the same routine over and over.  They are working very efficiently, but your not gaining any strength benefit from this. So in order to push yourself to higher levels, it is necessary to ‘confuse’ the muscles by changing up the routines that you are doing. Hence, how P90x works.

In order to create that muscle confusion, P90x is broken down into 3 phases.  Each ~30 days you will adjust the workouts that you are doing during the 6/7 days.  By doing this you create a nice variety of workouts, keeps you from getting bored with the same o’ thing and allows the muscles to not get use to the same moves.  A wonderful concept.  

The nutrition plan initially you determine what level you will be starting at.  This is based on your calorie needs and fitness level.  By breaking down the food guide over the 90 days as well, they are adjusting the fuel that your body needs through each phase to accommodate it’s changes.  As you get stronger, and more fit the body begins to need different fuel requirements to sustain it’s levels.  So the nutrition plan is designed accordingly.  You will be amazed at how the shift in your diet following the nutrition plan will take you to that ‘extreme’ level of fitness during the 90 days.  Your energy, your overall sense of just feeling great will begin to shine through. The food part of this and any other workout play a ‘critical’ role in your success. You CANNOT skip this.

Can I really get that ripped in 90 days?

You know, to be honest, yes!  Now does it require work form your part?  Big time.  It requires you giving p90x and Tony Horton your commitment for 90 full days.  Both, physically and mentally.  But you must follow the nutrition guide as close as possible.  Food is over 50% of the battle.  If you eat properly, cutting out everything that you were doing bad before, you will see the Transformation before your eyes in 90 days.

What kind of Tools are required?

Bands
Chin-up Bar
Push up stands

Now personally, I started with nothing.  Literally.  Just me, the DVD’s and a whole lot of nerves.  Over time now I have added in pieces of the puzzle to help me push my fitness levels. I first added bands because I knew I wanted to have some resistance. Next, I added the push-up stands, then lastly the chin-up bar.    I will say, if you plan on dedicating yourself to do this, pull-up bar is a must.  Plus, get yourself a decent set of weights.  Resistance bands DO work, just won’t see the benefits as quickly.

Will I notice results right away?

Some people will see them pretty quick. After the first week or first month.  The key is sticking with it. If you are following the plan, then you will notice the changes. But  you have to give it at least 30 days because some people’s body reacts differently than others. Just the way the human body works.  You will see it though.

What else is there?

Tony Horton also released an additional set of routines called P90x Plus. These are designed for those who graduated from a round or two of P90x.  They take things up a notch and really are awesome workouts. Additional workouts provided in P90x Plus include,  Kenpo Cardio Plus, Upper Plus, Abs Core Plus, Total Body Plus and Interval X Plus

Additionally, Tony Horton has been releasing for over a year now (volume 1), the One on One series. up close and person with Tony workouts.  These are in awesome.  You can create amazing series of routines utilizing just the one on one’s.  There are 13 total so far.  I will post some more information on those soon.

Volume 2 of the One on One series began in July with Cardio Interval. I’ve gone through this already and it is very nice.  I’ve always enjoyed the motivation and training style that Tony brings to his workouts.  You will like it to.

Can you make money while working out with P90x?

Yes.  While you are doing P90x and other BeachBody programs, you can make money.  Sounds odd but it is true.  If you feel strongly enough about the program you are doing, you feel that you can make a difference in other’s lives by helping them through P90x or other programs, then sign up as a Independent BeachBody Coach and you can get paid to workout.   I would certainly enjoy working with you on this journey if you are interested. If so, head over and sign up  as a coach.  I think you will see, it is a great opportunity to make extra income while you are getting fit and changing your lifestyle.  What else could you ask for?  Additionally you get discounts on products which isn’t such a bad deal also.

Final Notes:

Really that is it in a nutshell.  It is a great workout.
